Pass a secret message like Washington’s spies! The sender uses the cylinder to spell out their message in one row. Each of the other rows can be used as an encryption of the message. The sender copies the sequence of letters on any other row. The recipient arranges the letters of their own cylinder into the sequence received and then rotates the whole cylinder until they recognize a meaningful series of words.
