New York City was occupied by the British for over seven years during the Revolutionary War. On November 25, 1783, the British filed onto their ships to leave for good, and the War for Independence was finally over. 

Led by New York City Tour Guide Fred Cookinham, follow in the footsteps of General Washington and his troops as they entered New York in triumph after the war. Learn about the people and sites of New York and what it was like to be caught up in a revolution.

Health & Safety

The safety of our staff and visitors is of the utmost importance. By purchasing a ticket to this walking tour, you agree to follow these policies. The Museum reserves the right to deny participation to anyone not following these policies. 

  • All participants over the age of two MUST wear a mask covering the mouth and nose at all times. Please note that a face shield without a mask is not sufficient.

  • Capacity of these tours is capped at 15 participants. All participants must maintain 6 feet of distance from others on the tour (excluding members of the same household).

  • All participants are required to have their temperature checked prior to joining the walking tour. The Museum reserves the right to deny participation to anyone receiving a reading of 100.4+ degrees of above. We ask that anyone who has experienced COVID-19 symptoms, tested positive, or been in contact with someone who has tested positive within the past 14 days not join the tour.

  • Museum staff must enforce these policies to ensure the safety of everyone on the tour. Please make sure to listen to their directions.

Your ticket purchase includes complementary Museum admission. If you wish to visit the Museum after the tour, you MUST reserve your place in advance to ensure proper Museum gallery capacities are observed. Please email 2education@frauncestavernmuseum.org by Thursday, November 19 to reserve your space.

Frederick Cookinham has been a licensed New York City tour guide for 21 years. He holds a BA in American History from Cortland State and an MA from Brooklyn College. He has led tours for the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership, the New-York Historical Society, and many other groups.
